🇩🇪 A spoonful of German culture
Germany has a lot of theatres. Not just big cities but many mid-sized towns have their own municipal or state theatre (Stadttheater, Staatstheater). A resident ensemble often rotates several productions, so the same theatre may show a different play each night.
Before the show, people usually leave their coats at the cloakroom (Garderobe). At the end, the cast comes back for several bows, and if the audience is really moved, the applause sometimes turns into rhythmic clapping.
And never wish a performer "Viel Glück!" — say "Toi, toi, toi!" instead. It's the stage world's good-luck charm, and by tradition you don't say thank you for it. 🍀
