🇩🇪 A spoonful of German culture
To offer condolences in German, people usually keep it short: Mein herzliches Beileid. or Es tut mir sehr leid. You don't need many words for them to feel sincere.
Mourners often wear black or dark clothes to a funeral. If you can't attend, sending a Trauerkarte (sympathy card) is common. After the funeral, family and friends sometimes gather for coffee and cake, called Trauerkaffee.
German cemeteries are often green and quiet, and some people walk there like in a park. Looking after the grave is an important task for many families. 🕯️
