When spring comes, flowerpots appear on windowsills and balconies all over Germany. I bought a little pot of herbs at the supermarket — then wondered who'd water it while I was away. I wanted to ask my neighbour, but the words wouldn't come.
Today's ten words are all about flowers and plants. With them you can buy a bouquet at the florist's, look after your pots and ask a neighbour to water them. 🌸

🇩🇪 A spoonful of German culture
When you're invited to someone's home in Germany, a small bunch of flowers is a common gift. Red roses feel strongly romantic, though, so for friends it's safer to choose something else.
Cities are full of allotment gardens called Kleingarten (or Schrebergarten), small rented plots where people grow flowers and vegetables. People without a garden often fill their balconies with flowers and herbs instead.
During the holidays, neighbours often water each other's plants and empty each other's letterboxes. A small thank-you gift afterwards is a nice touch. 🌷

Show the answer
③ Kannst du im Urlaub meine Blumen gießen?
gießen means to water, so you're asking them to water your flowers while you're away.
Look at a plant at home or flowers outside and say out loud: Die … blüht. Ich gieße meine Pflanzen. Words, like plants, grow best with a little water every day! 🌱
