Into the German woods: 10 words
A2B1B2
For many Germans, the forest isn't just a lot of trees — it's how Sunday feels.
Even in Berlin, a few train stops take you into the woods. On a Sunday morning you crunch through fallen leaves, a squirrel races up a tree, and mushrooms pop up by the path. Then your German friend whispers, “Schau mal, ein Reh!” — a what?
Today's ten words are things you see and hear in the forest. You'll be able to name the trees, leaves, mushrooms and animals in German. 🌳

🇩🇪 A spoonful of German culture
Germans love a walk in the woods (Waldspaziergang). Generally anyone may enter the forest to relax, but people are expected to stay on paths and take their rubbish home.
In autumn many people go mushroom picking. Poisonous mushrooms are easy to confuse with edible ones, so only pick what you know for sure. Some areas offer mushroom advice (Pilzberatung).
Hansel and Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood — so many of the Grimm brothers' fairy tales are set in the forest. A walk in the German woods can feel like stepping into one. 🍄
