How to use it
Clause 2 happens contrary to what you would expect from the fact in clause 1. More emphatic: -(으)ㄴ/는데도 불구하고.
Forming it
| 먹다 | → 먹는데도 |
| 비싸다 | → 비싼데도 |
| 학생 | → 학생인데도 |
| 공부하다 | → 공부했는데도 |
Clause 1 must be a real fact, not a hypothesis: for 'even if' use -아/어도.
Examples
약을 먹었는데도 감기가 안 나아요.
Even though I took medicine, my cold isn't getting better.
비가 오는데도 사람들이 많이 왔어요.
Even though it was raining, a lot of people came.
Compared with similar patterns
-아/어도 can be hypothetical ('even if'); -(으)ㄴ/는데도 is about real facts. -(으)면서도 needs the same subject. N에도 불구하고 is the noun version.
