Korean grammar patterns › Level 1
-(으)ㅂ시다
let's (do) (formal)
Level 1 · TOPIK I · beginner
How to use it
A formal 'let's', used to a group, among equals, or to people junior to you (a teacher to students, a team leader to a team).
Forming it
| 가다 | → 갑시다 |
| 먹다 | → 먹읍시다 |
| 만들다 | → 만듭시다 |
| 걷다 | → 걸읍시다 |
Avoid it with people senior to you; it can sound bossy. Say 같이 가세요/가시지요 instead. ㄹ-stems drop ㄹ: 만들다 → 만듭시다. Verbs only.
Examples
시간이 없으니까 빨리 출발합시다.
We don't have time, so let's leave quickly.
회의가 끝났으니까 같이 점심을 먹읍시다.
The meeting is over, so let's have lunch together.
