Korean grammar patterns › Level 1
-(으)ㄹ까요?
shall we/I …?; do you think …?
Level 1 · TOPIK I · beginner
How to use it
1) With 'we' or 'I' as subject: a suggestion or offer, 'shall we/I…?'. 2) Asking the listener's opinion or guess: 'do you think…?'.
Forming it
| 가다 | → 갈까요? |
| 먹다 | → 먹을까요? |
| 만들다 | → 만들까요? |
| 걷다 | → 걸을까요? |
Answer a 'shall we…?' with -아/어요 or -(으)ㅂ시다 (좋아요, 같이 가요), not with another -(으)ㄹ까요. ㄹ-stems add only -ㄹ까요: 만들까요?
Examples
날씨가 좋은데 공원에서 좀 걸을까요?
The weather is nice. Shall we take a walk in the park?
내일 아침에도 비가 많이 올까요?
Do you think it will rain a lot tomorrow morning too?
Compared with similar patterns
-(으)ㄹ래요? asks what the listener wants ('do you want to…?'); -(으)ㅂ시다 is a formal 'let's' statement, not a question.
