On a grey German day, a museum is the perfect escape — as long as you know the words.
It's a rainy Sunday and you've agreed to go to a museum with a friend. The sign at the ticket desk says Öffnungszeiten, Ermäßigung, Sonderausstellung … Is there a student discount? And where does the exhibition start?

In the middle of Berlin there's Museum Island (Museumsinsel), with five major museums side by side. The whole island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one day is hardly enough.
Many cities hold a ‘Long Night of Museums’ (Lange Nacht der Museen) once a year. One ticket lets you visit lots of museums until late at night, and it feels like a festival.
Students and children often get a discount, so bring your student card. Big bags usually go into a locker (Schließfach) or the cloakroom (Garderobe) before you go in. 🎟️
