🇩🇪 A spoonful of German culture

Germany likes to call itself the ‘land of poets and thinkers’ (Land der Dichter und Denker). Goethe, Schiller, Thomas Mann and Kafka are school reading, and almost every German student has carried around one of the small yellow Reclam paperbacks.

Every October the Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse) takes place, and Leipzig holds its book fair in spring. Small local bookshops are still common, and asking the bookseller for a recommendation is very normal.

Also, new German-language books generally cost the same everywhere thanks to fixed book prices, whether you buy online or round the corner. So you can support your local bookshop with a clear conscience. 📖
