October is one of the busiest months of the K-pop year, and 2026 is no exception. As The Korea Times laid out on October 6, the month is stacked with new albums, and the real showdown falls on October 26, when IVE, ILLIT and RIIZE all release new music on the same day.
The October 26 showdown
- IVE returns with the mini album Looks Can Kill, its first album in about eight months, with a cinema-inspired concept. A pre-release track came out on October 19.
- ILLIT releases its fifth mini album BREAK EVEN at 6 p.m. KST. The album is about refusing to keep giving to a one-sided relationship. It follows "It's Me," which reached No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100.
- RIIZE drops a prologue single ahead of its second full-length album, planned for next spring.
In fan language, a release day like this is a 컴백 대전 (keombaek daejeon) – a "comeback battle."
The rest of the month
- October 6: KickFlip (JYP) opened the month with KICK OFF THE WALL Pt. 1.
- October 12: a busy Monday with NCT WISH (I SPY), virtual group PLAVE (HYPERDRIVE), band Xdinary Heroes (IMPULSE), MEOVV ("GO HARD") and Sung Han-bin's solo debut EP DEAD:ALIVE.
- October 19: NMIXX released its sixth EP Strange Muse, including the group's first unit songs.
- October 23: BLACKPINK's Lisa releases her EP PRESS PLAY, and BABYMONSTER shares a new song.
- October 27–28: AND2BLE (Sequence 02: Attraction) and XLOV (i=!) close out the month.
Dates are as reported in early October 2026; agencies sometimes adjust schedules, so check official channels before release day.
Why "comeback" means something different in K-pop
In English, a comeback usually means returning after a long break. In K-pop, 컴백 (keombaek) simply means an artist's new release and promotion period, even if the last one was only a few months ago. Fans also talk about the 타이틀곡 (taiteulgok) – the title track that gets the music video – and 선공개 (seongonggae), a song released early to build excitement, like IVE's pre-release this month.
