How to use it

A formal noun meaning 'what / the thing that'. Used in set phrases: -(으)ㄴ 바와 같이 'as …', -(으)ㄴ 바에 따르면 'according to what …', -(으)ㄴ 바 있다 'has done (before)'. Also connects 'given that …' in official writing.

Forming it

설명하다	→ 설명한 바와 같이
알다	→ 아는 바
조사하다	→ 조사한 바에 따르면

Typical of written or formal speech (reports, news, speeches); sounds stiff in conversation.

Examples
