in doing, for (doing) — with time, cost, use, help
Level 3 · TOPIK II · intermediate
How to use it
데 here means 'the situation / the thing', so -는 데 + 걸리다 (takes time), 들다/쓰다 (costs, spends), 좋다/도움이 되다 (good for), 필요하다 (needed for). Written with a space.
Forming it
Don't confuse it with the connective -는데 (no space): 가는 데 한 시간 걸려요 vs. 가는데 비가 왔어요.
Examples
It takes an hour to get from home to work.
Exercise helps relieve stress.
