How to use it
Says someone is right in the middle of an action or process. Common with nouns: 회의 중, 수업 중, 공사 중, 통화 중.
Forming it
| 공부하다 | → 공부하는 중이에요 |
| 찾다 | → 찾는 중이에요 |
| 만들다 | → 만드는 중이에요 |
| 회의 | → 회의 중이에요 |
Not with adjectives: ✗ 바쁜 중이에요 → 바빠요 / 일하는 중이에요.
Examples
지금 집에 가는 중이에요. 조금만 기다려요.
I'm on my way home now. Please wait a little.
사장님은 지금 회의 중이세요.
The company president is in a meeting right now.
Compared with similar patterns
-고 있다 is the general progressive (also habits and wearing); -는 중이다 stresses being in the middle of it now; -는 도중(에) says something happens in the middle of an action.
