N이/가 되다
become N
Level 1 · TOPIK I · beginner
How to use it
Means 'become N'. Also used for times and seasons arriving: 봄이 되다, 열두 시가 되다. The past 됐어요 ('has become') is very common.
Forming it
| 의사 | → 의사가 돼요 |
| 선생님 | → 선생님이 됐어요 |
| 봄 | → 봄이 돼요 |
The noun takes 이/가, not 을/를: ✗ 의사를 돼요. 되어요 contracts to 돼요 (✗ 되요). For adjectives use -아/어지다 (예뻐지다).
Examples
제 동생은 올해 대학생이 됐어요.
My younger sibling became a university student this year.
벌써 열두 시가 됐어요. 점심 먹으러 가요.
